Patricia M. Shields is a Professor of Political Science at Texas State University. Her research areas includes the broad interdisciplinary sphere where society and military meet and include topics such as the equity of the draft, women and minorities in the military, peacekeeping, peacebuilding, and recruitment. She has edited the leading journal in this area (Armed Forces & Society) since 2001. Her research interests also extend to research methodology. She has published three books on methodology, including one that looks directly at the challenges of employing methodology in military settings. She has also applied the philosophy of pragmatism to a variety of contexts, research methods, peacekeeping, public administration. Some of these works are required readings in PhD seminars throughout the US. She has published over 75 articles and book chapters in these related fields.
