Sara Shields is a lecturer in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Texas State University in San Marcos, TX. Shields is part of the Digital Media Innovation faculty and teaches courses that introduce students to web design, video production, graphic design and social media.
Shields received her B.S. in Public Relations and M.A. in Digital Media from Texas State University. After graduating with her Masters degree, she accepted a Digital Marketing Manager position where she worked on social media marketing, video production, web development and design. Shields produced professional commercials and radio ads that were ran hundreds of times throughout Central Texas. Later, Shields received a new job in Austin working for an Artist Management Company as a Digital Content Manager. She worked on social media campaigns, websites, and produced videos for a roster of 15+ clients throughout the country. Shields also runs a creative production business where she’s worked with several clients building websites, producing videos or designing graphics.
In 2017, Shields was a speaker at SXSW Interactive where she spoke about technology and graphic design. She has also spoken at ONA and College Broadcasters, Inc. National Student Electronic Media Convention about drones in journalism. Sara is currently a licensed commercial drone pilot.
