Dr. Dailey teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in organizational communication, empirical research methods, interviewing, interpersonal communication and professional communication skills. In the classroom, she strives to make course material relevant and valuable to students beyond the college campus.

Dr. Dailey researches the processes of organizational socialization and identification, particularly through the use of technology and narratives in organizations. Her dissertation, which explored how individuals learn about and identify with organizations and occupations before joining them, was funded by a National Science Foundation grant. Dr. Dailey publishes theoretical essays, applied empirical research, and teaching activities. For example, Dr. Dailey's conceptual article, "Retelling stories in organizations: Understanding the functions of narrative repetition" is published in the Academy of Management Review in 2014, and she is an author for the chapter "Communicating identity and identification in and around organizations" in the Handbook of Organizational Communication (2013).

Examples of Dr. Dailey's empirical work include her article "Situated organizational identification in newcomers: Impacts of pre-entry organizational exposure", which appears in Management Communication Quarterly (2012) and "Disseminating health messages: The roles of organizational identification and HITs", published in Health Communication (2013). She has also written a classroom exercise for Communication Teacher, titled "Let's take a trip: A classroom activity for exploring the effect of listening" (2014). Dr. Dailey serves on the editorial review board of Communication Teacher. She is also the listserv moderator for the Organizational Communication Division of the International Communication Association. Dr. Dailey has also worked as a Communication Coach for the University of Texas MBA+ Leadership Program in the McCombs School of Business.
