Dr. Rebekah Fox is an Assistant Professor who teaches graduate and undergraduate classes in Organizational Rhetoric, Rhetorical Methods and Criticism, Extremist Rhetoric on the Internet, Health Communication, Persuasion and Environmental Communication. She has been awarded the department’s Golden Apple Teaching Awards for undergraduate and graduate teaching, as well as the Favorite Professor Award from the Alfred H. Noole Chapter of the Alpha Chi National College Honor Society and the Foundations of Excellence Award from the Texas State Student Foundation.

Dr. Fox’s research falls into three categories 1) organizational rhetoric, with a focus on power and control in organizations, 2) health communication with a focus on the U.S. nursing shortage and nursing work, and 3) the rhetoric of social movements, with foci in environmental rhetoric, freedom of expression and political communication. She has been published in communication journals and journals in related fields, such as the Journal of Contemporary Rhetoric, Studies in Symbolic Interaction, Environmental Communication: A Journal of Nature and Culture, American Journal of Nursing, International Journal of Healthcare Information Systems and Informatics, Health Communication, International Journal of Reliable and Quality e-Healthcare, First Amendment Studies and the Communication Law Review. She was recently awarded the Southern States Communication Association, Janice Hocker Rushing Early Career Research Award for “exceptional scholarly ability” in research and publication. She was also awarded the James Madison Prize for First Amendment Studies from the Freedom of Speech Division of the Southern States Communication Association.

Dr. Fox is the current the editor of the Communication Law Review and chair of the Freedom of Speech division of the Southern States Communication Association. She currently serves as an editor for the International Wildland Firefighting Association and chair of the award selection committee for the National Communication Association’s Franklyn S. Haiman, Award for Distinguished Scholarship in Freedom of Expression. Dr. Fox also serves as a departmental co-advisor for the Delta Beta Chapter of Lambda Pi Eta, the National Communication Honors Society.
